A Few of My Favorite Things

The January Edition

I’m sure you’ve seen lists like this before (I know I have) where someone shares their favorite things. Could be physical items, activities they’ve been doing, etc. While this isn’t an original idea by any means, I thought it would be a nice way for me to at least get one article out every month. So what better way to kick off this new “My Favorite Things” series than by starting with a January recap?

Take a look at what’s been making me happy, helping me grow, or just getting me through the day:

Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol

I have to be honest and admit that I came across this book via Chrissy Teigen who posted a pic of it on her Instagram. I’m currently doing a “dry month” better known as “Dry January” where I refrain from all things booze, so it felt timely.

I’m only about 60 pages in and I truly can not put it down. Bottomline, I will never look at alcohol the same way again and honestly I think we all need to re-evaluate this whole drinking thing.

Podcasts

Smartless

SmartLess is a podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, & Will Arnett that focuses on shared experiences through ‘thoughtful dialogue and organic hilarity’. For each episode, one of the hosts reveals a ‘mystery guest’ to the other two — they truly have no idea who’s coming on the pod that week. This leads to a genuinely improvised and authentic conversation filled with laughter and newfound knowledge.

My only negative thing to say about this podcast is that I wish the episodes were longer — that’s how much I enjoy them!

Stuff You Should Know

If you’ve ever wanted to know about champagne, satanism, the Stonewall Uprising, chaos theory, LSD, El Nino, true crime and Rosa Parks, then look no further. Hosts Josh and Chuck cover all these topics and so much more — honestly more than you can ever imagine!

Just this past week, I listened to them talk about the KKK, the Hatfields & McCoys, and the Secret of Cute. I guarantee they have an episode on a topic you’ve been dying to know more about so check them out!

P.S. — I’m launching my own podcast with a very dear friend of mine called Two Gurls, One Murder later this year. More on that later.

Ugg Slippers

Want a pair for yourself? Buy them here

These slippers legit feel like I’m wearing either clouds or pillows (I can’t decide) on my feet at all times. They feature a fluffy collar, soft suede and Ugg’s signature sheepskin, making them the essential house slipper.

My toes will never be chilled again!

Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea from Harney & Sons

I usually order two bags of sachets in this flavor directly from their website

If you know me at all, you know I don’t do coffee. That said, I need something to carry me through my long workdays! Introducing the Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea from Harney & Sons. They have many incredible flavors ranging from the wild to the traditional, but my all time favorite is Hot Cinnamon Spice.

Truth be told, this will probably make the list every single month. I have at least two cups of this tea every single day!

Working Out

LIIFT 4 from Beachbody

I’ve been a Beachbody member for awhile now, but this month I went back to the program that originally made me want to sign up. That program is LIIFT 4 — a plan created by Super Trainer Joel Freeman that combines heavy lifting and intense cardio in just 4 days a week.

I’ve also been exploring the Peloton app for their workouts to mix things up throughout the week or on weekends while I wait for my bike to arrive. Yes, my Peloton bike will finally be delivered this weekend after months of delays, so I’m sure you’ll see it pop up on my favorites list next month.

Speaking of bikes, Kyle did get me a bike from Retrospec for Christmas and we’ve managed to brace the cold for two rides on the weekend. I’m leaving it off the list for now since we’ve just been testing the bike really and are trying to find a route we love to ride in the city, so stay tuned!

And that does it for my list, so now it’s your turn. What are some things that you’ve really been enjoying this month? Let me know in the comments!
